After finishing tenth last year, Fulham is having a lackluster performance in the 2023/2024 season. A new summer acquisition, Nigerian national team defender Calvin Bassey, could help the team secure its position in the English Premier League. The Kick Off Nigeria tells a story about his salary.
According to The Athletic the Cottagers paid the young Nigeria’s former club Ajax €21 million. Bassey himself wasn’t just happy with the move to the Premier League but was more than excited to live in one of the greatest cities in the world.
“I know how big of a club Fulham is. They always have quality players, they’re playing in the Premier League, the best league in the world, so I didn’t have to think much about it. Bassey said upon his move. “It’s a London club as well, so it’s always a plus to go home! I’m happy it’s all done now and I can just focus on football and help the team build on last season, when they did amazing.”
What is Calvin Bassey’s salary at Fulham?

Market value: Decline after Returning to England
After a successful season and reaching the Europa League final with Rangers Football Club, Calvin Bassey’s transfer value increased tenfold. In the summer of 2022, the defender moved to Ajax for €23 million, setting a record for Glasgow’s club. A year later, he moved to the English Premier League for a similar amount. However, due to less playing time, the player’s value decreased by three million. Transfermarkt.com estimates Bassey’s transfer value at €15 million.

Achievements With the National Team
Born in Italy, Calvin Bassey moved to London and later joined the Leicester City academy. Thus, the defender had the opportunity to play for three national teams: Italy, England, and Nigeria. In 2022, Bassey received a call-up to the Nigerian national team and has played 15 matches so far. He has yet to participate in major tournaments but could become a key player for the Nigerian team in the future.
Prospects
Initially, Bassey struggled for a place in the lineup, either coming on in the second half or remaining on the bench until the ninth round. However, from late October, the Nigerian became a regular under manager Mark Silva and played five full matches. During this time, he has not registered any goal contributions. Nevertheless, it can be said that Calvin Bassey will now have a greater impact on the English team’s game and may attract the attention of top clubs, with a possible increase in salary.
