Renowned football agent Dario Canovi has thrown a curveball into Victor Osimhen’s recent contract extension celebrations at Napoli, predicting the Super Eagles striker’s departure from the club next summer, as Soccernet.NG reports.
Despite the Nigerian star’s impressive contributions to Napoli’s Scudetto triumph last season, Canovi asserts that Osimhen’s renewed contract is merely a strategic move to increase his transfer value.
Osimhen, who became the first African to clinch the Capocannoniere with 31 goals last season, has been on the radar of European giants Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal. While interest from these clubs circulated last summer, Osimhen opted to stay with Napoli, prompting negotiations for a contract extension.
The 24-year-old striker inked a one-year extension until 2026 just last week, signaling his commitment to the Italian club. However, Canovi believes this move is designed to elevate Osimhen’s market value, with a speculated €130 million release clause making a potential exit more plausible. According to Transfermarkt the Nigerian’s market value is €110 million.
In an interview with Napoli Magazine, Canovi expressed his conviction, stating,
“It is a renewal that simply serves to increase the price. In my opinion, he will go away in June.”
With the Premier League looming as a possible destination, Osimhen’s future hangs in the balance, keeping fans and football enthusiasts eagerly awaiting the unfolding saga next summer.
