English Premier League side West Ham United is reportedly intensifying efforts to secure the signature of 23-year-old Nigerian striker Akor Adams from Montpellier, according to Soccernet.NG.
Despite a commendable performance this season, Montpellier has struggled in Ligue 1, winning only four out of seventeen league games. Adams, however, has been a standout player, scoring seven goals and catching the attention of European clubs.
West Ham, currently sitting in 6th place in the Premier League, just five points away from the top five, is keen on bolstering its attacking options. The Hammers have been without a recognized striker since Michail Antonio’s injury, with Jarrod Bowen stepping in.
Scouts from the Europa Conference League winners are reportedly closely monitoring Adams in the French League. The Nigerian forward, who made a move to Montpellier last summer, has impressed with his goal-scoring prowess, netting 25 times in 46 games between December 2021 and August 2023.
Akor Adams’ notable debut for Montpellier, where he scored a brace against Le Havre, and his subsequent goal against Olympique Lyonnais in a 4-1 victory, have further heightened West Ham’s interest in the young striker.
Despite his impressive performances, Adams is yet to receive a call-up to the Nigerian national team. The striker has also attracted attention from A.C. Milan, who are reportedly considering him as a potential replacement for Olivier Giroud.
According to Transfermarkt the player’s current market value estimates at €12 million. West Ham Zone reports that David Moyes and his team are hopeful that the addition of Akor Adams could provide the necessary firepower to secure a coveted spot in European competitions. The club’s scouts are expected to closely monitor Adams as the January transfer window progresses.
