Chelsea Football Club has officially submitted its updated squad list to the Premier League following the closure of the January transfer window. The squad is divided into two lists, one comprising nineteen players and another reserved exclusively for U21 players and scholars regardless of nationality.
Under the management of Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea has bolstered its squad with 66 players classified as U21 players and scholars, with eight of them eligible to represent the Nigerian national teams, as per allnigeriasoccer.com.
Among the notable additions are Lesley Ugochukwu, nephew of Nigeria’s 2010 Africa Cup of Nations star Onyekachi Apam, Noni Madueke (21), Carney Chukwuemeka (20), Richard Olise (19), Tyrique George (18), Chinonso Chibueze (18), Somto Boniface (17), and Saheed Olagunju (17).
While Ugochukwu, Chukwuemeka, and Madueke have already made their Premier League debuts for Chelsea, the other five players of Nigerian descent are yet to receive call-ups for Premier League games.
Richard Olise, younger brother of 2021 Super Eagles invitee Michael Olise, along with George, Chibueze, and Boniface, have secured professional contracts with Chelsea. Tyrique George particularly stands out for his exceptional performance, having scored fourteen goals in all competitions this season, including a remarkable strike against Crystal Palace in the FA Youth Cup.
With these additions, Chelsea aims to strengthen its squad depth and continue its pursuit of success in both domestic and international competitions for the remainder of the 2023-2024 season.
