Rangers’ central defender, Leon Aderemi Balogun, may be in line for a contract extension, according to recent remarks by boss Philippe Clement, as per Soccernet.NG.
Despite spending most of the season on the bench, Balogun’s recent performance has caught the attention of management.
Balogun, who joined Rangers from Queens Park Rangers for a second spell, faced challenges breaking into the first team this season, often finding himself sidelined. However, a standout performance in the Scottish Cup semi-final against Hearts has reignited hopes for the veteran defender.
Clement praised Balogun’s resilience and commitment to the club, highlighting his positive mentality. Speaking to the press, Clement hinted at the possibility of a contract extension, emphasizing the importance of evaluating all options at the end of the season.
“Leon is somebody who showed every day the right mentality, the right passion for the club. So that can be something that is on the table at the end of the season,” Clement stated. “I think it’s now very important we have the next two weeks for the games, that the players are focused on football,”
With Balogun’s current contract set to expire in the summer, the coming weeks hold significance for both the player and the club. Clement stressed the importance of focusing on upcoming matches as Rangers chase a domestic double.
