The Dutch giants are seeking to offload one of their strikers, either Brian Brobbey or Nigerian Chuba Akpom, to facilitate the signing of Wout Weghorst, as per Voetbal Headliner.
Weghorst, currently under contract with Burnley until 2025, has expressed a strong desire to join Ajax, but his move is contingent on Ajax selling another player.
The Dutch media outlet explains that Akpom’s departure is particularly crucial for creating space for Weghorst. Akpom, who has a contract until 2028 and was acquired from Middlesbrough for over twelve million euros last season, has yet to attract significant interest from other clubs, making a quick sale unlikely.

Akpom’s recent performance against FK Vojvodina did not impress, suggesting that Ajax is eager to sell him soon. If Weghorst joins, coach Francesco Farioli will have two strong forwards, Weghorst and Brobbey, providing both a selection dilemma and opportunities for a flexible playing system.
