Nigerian striker Chuba Akpom has caught the attention of German Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart, according to recent reports from Dutch media outlet Voetbal Primeur.
The club, which secured a spot in the upcoming UEFA Champions League after finishing second in the Bundesliga last season, is looking to bolster its attacking options following the departure of top scorer Serhou Guirassy to Borussia Dortmund.
Akpom, currently with Ajax, is among the names being considered by Stuttgart. The German club has already signed Deniz Undav from Brighton & Hove Albion but remains in search of another striker. Akpom’s agent has reportedly engaged in talks with Stuttgart, although it remains unclear whether Ajax is aware of the German club’s interest.
Ajax appears open to selling Akpom for the right price, as the club is keen to manage its wage bill and make room for the potential arrival of Dutch international Wout Weghorst. Akpom’s departure could ease the financial constraints at Ajax and facilitate Weghorst’s transfer to Amsterdam. According to Transfermarkt the player’s current value estimates at €12 million.
Stuttgart is also considering Chelsea’s Armando Broja as a possible replacement for Guirassy, but the club has yet to decide which striker to prioritize.
