Brentford is trying to sign Fiorentina’s young Nigerian defender, Michael Kayode, before the summer transfer window ends, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Reports from both English and Italian media, including transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, confirm that Brentford is keen on the 20-year-old right-back.
The club has made an official offer to Fiorentina, proposing a loan deal with a requirement to buy based on Kayode’s performances. The deal is valued at around €20 to €22 million. However, Fiorentina is not eager to let go of one of their own academy players, especially under these conditions. Kayode, valued at €40 million by Transfermarkt, is under contract with Fiorentina until 2028.
Kayode is part of Fiorentina’s plans for the new season under manager Raffaele Palladino. He was included in the squad for their first two matches, though he did not play in the recent game against Venezia, as speculation about his future continues.
Kayode, who started his youth career with Juventus and Gozzano, joined Fiorentina in 2021 and quickly moved up the ranks. Last season, he played in 37 games, scoring one goal and providing four assists.
The young defender, who also plays for Italy’s U21 team, is under contract with Fiorentina until June 2028. With the transfer deadline approaching, it’s uncertain if Brentford can complete the deal in time.
