Former Turkish Super Lig champions Trabzonspor have initiated discussions with Lyon over a potential move for Nigerian striker Gift Orban, Soccernet.NG reports.
Trabzonspor, on the hunt for attacking reinforcements after the expiration of Paul Onuachu’s loan deal, have been negotiating with Southampton to secure Onuachu on a permanent basis. However, the clubs have been unable to agree on a transfer fee, with Southampton demanding €13 million, while Trabzonspor are only willing to pay half that amount.

Shifting their focus, Trabzonspor are now pursuing a deal for Orban. The Turkish club has reportedly submitted a season-long loan offer to Lyon, including a €1 million fee for the loan. Additionally, the proposal includes a buyout clause set at €6 million, which would only be triggered if Orban scores 20 or more league goals during the season.
As of now, Lyon has not responded to the offer. However, it is considered unlikely that the French club will agree to the buyout clause, given that Lyon paid €14 million to sign Orban from Gent just nine months ago and would be reluctant to sell at a loss.
While a permanent transfer seems doubtful, the two clubs may settle on a loan agreement that would allow Orban to return to Lyon at the end of the season, providing Trabzonspor with a temporary solution to their attacking needs.
