Manchester United have confirmed the signing of highly-rated Nigerian striker, Chido Obi-Martin, from Arsenal, via club’s official website.
The 16-year-old, who was born in Denmark, has been described as a prolific goal scorer, earning the nickname “goal machine” for his performances at youth level.
Obi-Martin grabbed headlines last season when he netted ten goals in a single game as Arsenal’s U16s demolished Liverpool 14-3. He continued to impress, consistently scoring hat-tricks and more in the U18 Premier League against teams like Chelsea, West Ham, and Fulham. His remarkable tally of 32 goals in just 18 appearances solidified his status as one of the most promising young forwards in Europe.
Despite Arsenal’s efforts to keep the striker, offering him both a scholarship and a professional contract, they were unwilling to surpass their wage structure for youth players. This allowed Manchester United to swoop in, fending off competition from top European clubs including Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and Monaco.
Obi-Martin will initially join Manchester United’s U18 squad and is set to sign his first professional contract when he turns 17 in November. United fans will be eagerly watching his development, as the young forward looks set for a bright future at Old Trafford.
