Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho has arrived in England to finalize his highly anticipated move to English Championship side Middlesbrough FC, Kick Off Nigeria has exclusively learned.
The 28-year-old is set to join Michael Carrick’s side on a season-long loan from Spanish La Liga club Sevilla after falling down the pecking order, despite only signing with them last summer.
A source at his representing agency, Rogon, has confirmed the development, stating that the forward is set to undergo his medical later today ahead of tomorrow’s transfer deadline.
“He (Iheanacho) is in England for his medical at Middlesbrough. Middlesbrough’s terms were better than those of other suitors, including Celtic in Scotland, which is why we preferred this move. He has spoken directly with Michael Carrick, and their conversation was pivotal. We hope the medical goes smoothly because we’ve worked hard for this transfer,” the source told Kick Off Nigeria in an exclusive interview.
After playing a crucial role in Leicester City’s Championship title win last season, Iheanacho will now return to another promotion contender. He scored six goals and provided three assists to help Leicester secure promotion to the Premier League.
