Unheralded Nigerian youngster, Adewale Obalola in an exclusive interview with Kick Off Nigeria, has revealed that his greatest ambition is to play in Major League Soccer (MLS) after signing for USL Championship club, Hartford Athletic.
During the winter transfer window, Adewale Obalola completed a move to Hartford Athletic from Lithuanian club FK Ekranas Panevėžys.
Having started his football career in Nigeria, the promising striker signed his first professional contract with FK Ekranas Panevėžys in 2020, where he made a name for himself.
In an exclusive interview with Kick Off Nigeria, Obalola, who has already linked up with his new club, described his move to the USL Championship as the biggest step in his career, as he aims to play in the USA’s top flight soon.
“It wasn’t an easy decision before joining USL Championship side Hartford Athletic. I personally chose Hartford Athletic because I believe it is the right place to continue my development,” Obalola revealed.
“I’m delighted to have made the right choice. Hartford Athletic is a club every young player dreams of because there is room for continuous improvement every day.”
“I’m not just hoping—I know that hard work is all it takes to achieve great things with a club like Hartford Athletic. I look forward to playing in the USA’s top flight someday.”
In the recently concluded January transfer window, Obalola Adewale became the third Nigerian player to sign for a USL Championship club, following Monsuru Opeyemi, who joined FC Cincinnati B, and Timitayo Eruku, who joined Birmingham Legion FC.
