FC Midtjylland have completed the signing of Nigerian forward Stanley Iheanacho from Portuguese side C.D. Mafra, bringing the striker back to the club on a contract running until December 2030.
The 21-year-old returns to Denmark two years after leaving Midtjylland’s academy to continue his development in Portugal.
Iheanacho previously impressed for Midtjylland’s Under-19 side, scoring 12 goals in 22 appearances during the 2023-24 season. He also featured in the UEFA Youth League and made an immediate impact on his senior debut, scoring four goals in a Danish Cup match against Aabenraa BK.
His move to Mafra provided valuable first-team experience, with the Nigerian striker making 65 appearances and scoring 17 goals across all competitions. After becoming a regular contributor last season, his performances convinced Midtjylland to bring him back to the club.
Sporting director Kristian Bach Bak praised Iheanacho’s development, highlighting his pace, work rate and goalscoring ability as key attributes behind the transfer.
The forward also expressed his excitement about returning, describing Midtjylland’s academy as the foundation of his professional career and stating his ambition to compete for trophies and European football with the Danish side.
Iheanacho is regarded as one of Nigeria’s promising young attacking talents and will now look to establish himself in Midtjylland’s first team as the club prepares for the new season and its European campaign.
The move represents the next chapter in the striker’s development and gives Midtjylland a young, familiar attacking option with experience of senior football already under his belt.
