After months without a club, Nigerian forward Akinkunmi Amoo is close to finalizing his move to Croatian second division side NK Dugopolje, according to sources from Africa Foot.
Amoo has been without a team since his departure from Cypriot top-flight giants Omonia Nicosia in March of this year. His contract with Omonia was terminated just six months after his arrival, despite having signed a three-year deal.
Since then, his representatives at CIA Sports Group have been actively searching for a new club for the talented player. However, Amoo’s injury history has been a major barrier to securing a new contract, despite his undeniable potential.
Dugopolje has now offered Amoo a two-year deal, which was finalized on Saturday between the club and CIA Sports Group. A source close to the situation revealed that Amoo will officially join the team after completing his medical tests, scheduled for Monday.
In an interview with Africa Foot, the source stated:
“Amoo is still a young player with immense potential who is eager to prove his abilities to the world. He has had bad luck with injuries in the past, but at Dugopolje, he has a chance for redemption. He is expected to sign on Monday after his medical exams, hopefully without any issues.”
During his six-month stint at Omonia, the 22-year-old played in six matches in the Cypriot league and cup competitions. Before that, during his time with Danish club FC Copenhagen, Amoo made four senior appearances across two seasons. He also previously played for Swedish side Hammarby IF.
Meanwhile, Amoo, who is valued at €400,000 on Transfermarkt, has yet to make a senior international appearance for Nigeria. However, he was part of the Nigerian U-17 team that reached the Round of 16 at the 2019 U-17 World Cup in Brazil before being eliminated by the Netherlands.
