Akor Adams has defended compatriot Victor Osimhen following criticism over the striker’s permanent move to Galatasaray.
Osimhen completed a full transfer to the Turkish champions in July 2025 after spending the 2024-25 campaign on loan from Napoli, bringing an end to a protracted transfer saga that had dominated headlines for much of the previous year.
Despite impressing in Istanbul and helping Galatasaray domestically and in Europe, some Nigerian supporters questioned why a player widely regarded as one of Africa’s elite forwards did not secure a move to the Premier League or La Liga instead.
Lookman’s Atletico Madrid Move Fuels Debate
The debate intensified following Ademola Lookman’s transfer from Atalanta to Atletico Madrid.
Lookman had also been linked with Turkish side Fenerbahce but opted for Spain, a decision widely praised by fans. The winger has made an immediate impact in La Liga, registering seven goal contributions in his opening seven matches, including a goal against Barcelona.
For many supporters, Lookman’s strong start reinforced the perception that Osimhen should have pursued a similar pathway into one of Europe’s top-five leagues.
“Happy Victor is victorious Victor”
Speaking to Sporty TV, Sevilla forward Adams — who plays for Sevilla — dismissed the criticism, insisting that personal fulfilment outweighs external opinion.
“These guys are top athletes; they are professionals,” Adams said. “I think they don’t hear all these things — that’s the funny part. If you write a post or make a comment, they probably don’t see it.
“The most important thing is that Victor is happy — and a happy Victor is a victorious Victor. He made a decision that is good for him and his family, good for his future. It doesn’t matter what people say.
“He is wearing the shoe. He knows where it fits and where it hurts.”
Osimhen’s future still open?
While Osimhen has committed to Galatasaray, speculation over a future move has not disappeared. The 26-year-old remains highly rated across Europe, with clubs in England and Spain continuing to monitor his situation.
His earlier spell at Napoli, where he fired the club to a historic Serie A title, established him as one of Europe’s most sought-after strikers. Financial considerations, release clauses and timing have all played roles in shaping his career trajectory.
For now, however, Osimhen appears settled in Istanbul — and, as Adams suggests, contentment may prove more decisive than geography in determining the next chapter of his career.
