Nigerian wingback Uba Charles is set to return to Lillestrom SK following the end of his loan stint with Swedish Allsvenskan side Mjallby AIF, as per Footy-Africa.
The 22-year-old joined Mjallby in March on a short-term loan deal that included an option to buy. However, the Swedish club has decided not to activate the purchase clause, and the player will head back to Norway when the agreement expires on July 15.
A representative from Aneke Player Management Group, which oversees Uba Charles’s career, confirmed the development.
“Mjallby have notified Lillestrom that they won’t be taking up the buy option. Uba will return on July 15, and then a decision will be made on whether he stays or moves elsewhere,” the source told Footy-Africa.
Before his loan move, Uba Charles featured in 23 matches for Lillestrom during the 2024/25 season and has made 35 appearances in total for the Eliteserien club since his debut in 2022. His current contract with Lillestrom runs until June 2026.
During his time in Sweden, the Nigerian played just four games for Mjallby and didn’t complete a full 90 minutes in any of them.
Valued at €900,000 on Transfermarkt, Uba Charles began his European journey with Linkoping City in 2021 before moving to Ljungskile SK, where he played 27 league matches in Sweden’s Division One.
Though he is yet to make a senior appearance for the Super Eagles, he previously represented Nigeria at U20 level and remains on the radar for future national team call-ups.
