Cardiff City defender Jamilu Collins faces an uncertain future as manager Omer Riza has hinted at the possibility of an early contract termination, according to Wales Online.
The Nigerian international, who has struggled for game time this season, was unable to secure a transfer away from the club during the January window.
Collins had been keen to move on in search of regular playing time but failed to attract any concrete offers before the deadline. Despite this, Cardiff City may still look for a solution, with several transfer windows in different leagues still open.
When asked about Collins’ situation, Riza admitted that while no immediate developments have occurred, the club might reach a mutual agreement with the player in the coming weeks.
“Not at the moment,” Riza told Wales Online when asked if any transfer was still on the table. “If every window closes around the world, he will either look to stay or some sort of agreement will be made.”
The 29-year-old left-back has struggled to break into the first team this season, managing just three league appearances. This is a significant downturn from previous campaigns, where he was a more involved figure for the Bluebirds.
Collins, who joined Cardiff City from SC Paderborn in 2022, now faces a race against time to find a new club or negotiate an exit before the end of the season.
According to Transfermarkt, Collins is currently valued at €800,000, a figure that could influence potential suitors should he become available as a free agent.
With Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Rwanda approaching in March, the defender will be eager to secure regular playing time in order to revive his international career.
A former Kano Pillars player, Collins made his Super Eagles debut in 2018 and last featured for Nigeria in March 2024. His next move will be crucial in determining his club and national team prospects going forward.
