Patrick Dorgu, the Lecce left-back eligible to represent the Super Eagles, garnered serious attention from two top English Premier League clubs, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, during the last transfer window, as per allnigeriasoccer.com.
Born in Copenhagen, the young defender made a significant mark on his Denmark debut last Thursday, scoring just 47 seconds after coming off the bench to seal a 2-0 victory against Switzerland in the UEFA Nations League. Despite representing Denmark in this official match, Dorgu remains eligible for Nigeria, having not surpassed the three-match threshold that would tie him to Denmark permanently.
The 19-year-old had an impressive 2023-2024 campaign with Lecce, where he featured prominently, racking up 34 appearances. His standout performances earned him a first call-up to the senior Denmark squad, where he made his brief but impactful debut in the closing minutes against Switzerland.
Top Premier League clubs have been keeping tabs on Dorgu’s development, with Tottenham Hotspur reportedly having him on their summer transfer radar. Chelsea also explored the possibility of signing him earlier in July. However, a move to England failed to materialize, largely due to Lecce’s hefty valuation of the player, reportedly in the region of €30-35 million. According to Transfermarkt the player’s current value is estimated at €12 million.
Dorgu’s current contract with Lecce runs until June 2027, following his move from the Nordsjælland academy in 2022. Despite the interest from England, Lecce remains firm in their desire to retain the promising left-back, whose future remains one to watch for both club and country.
