Nigerian international Emmanuel Dennis will remain at English Championship side Blackburn Roversfor the rest of his loan spell, despite initial reports linking him with an early exit following the departure of manager John Eustace, Kick Off Nigeria has exclusively learned.
Eustace personally sanctioned Dennis’s six-month loan move from Nottingham Forest in January, expecting the forward to get more playing time while also helping Blackburn push for Premier League promotion.
Just days after signing, Dennis made his debut in an FA Cup clash against Wolves, where Blackburn suffered a 2-0 defeat. Eustace, however, still had high praise for the Nigerian, calling him “a good player” who “showed glimpses of brilliance.”
Eustace’s Exit Sparks Exit Rumors – But Dennis is Staying
Less than three days after Dennis’s debut, Eustace left Blackburn to take over at Derby County, triggering speculation that Dennis’s time at Ewood Park could be cut short. Reports suggested that the forward might return to Nottingham Forest early.
However, sources close to Dennis’s family, who also serve as his representatives, have confirmed exclusively to Kick Off Nigeria that he will complete his loan spell at Blackburn until June before deciding on his long-term future. His contract with Nottingham Forest runs until June 2026.
“It’s true that Eustace’s departure wasn’t what Dennis expected, especially after their extensive discussions before he joined. But that has nothing to do with whether he stays or leaves. He’s committed to seeing out the loan deal until summer. Blackburn has treated him well, and he’s determined to fight, prove his worth, and give them his best,” the source told Kick Off Nigeria.
Dennis Fighting for a Spot at Blackburn
Dennis played 66 minutes against Wolves in the FA Cup last weekend, but remained on the bench as Blackburn secured a 2-0 win over West Brom in the Championship on Wednesday. He will be eager to return to the lineup this Saturday, when Rovers host Plymouth Argyle.
The 27-year-old has made only 25 appearances for Nottingham Forest since joining them in the 2022/23 season from Watford. During that time, he has had loan spells at Istanbul Basaksehir and Watford, and previously played for FC Köln, Club Brugge, and Zorya Luhansk.
Super Eagles and Market Value
With the Nigerian national team, Dennis has earned eight caps since his debut in 2019, scoring one international goal. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value is estimated at €4 million.
