Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness has disclosed the club’s interest in signing Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho during the upcoming summer transfer window, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
According to Wyness, the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup winner and Nigeria international is on Everton’s radar as Iheanacho is set to become a free agent after his contract with Leicester City expires on July 1, 2024.
Iheanacho has hinted at his departure from Leicester City after being seen wearing a t-shirt with the message “We’ve got history. When I’m gone, you gon’ miss me” following the Foxes’ last match of the season.
His playing time dramatically decreased post-Africa Cup of Nations 2023, with only 57 minutes on the pitch out of a potential 1,350 in the Championship.

On the Insider Track podcast by Football Insider, Wyness speculated that Iheanacho’s departure strategy might involve applying pressure on Leicester City’s board, possibly influenced by his agent. He also mentioned that despite the tension, Iheanacho is a valuable asset for Premier League clubs, including Everton, due to his status as a homegrown player.
While Leicester City would prefer to maintain squad stability by retaining Iheanacho, the lack of agreement on contract terms might pave the way for his exit. Aston Villa, another of Wyness’ former clubs, has also shown interest in the striker.
This development marks a critical moment in Iheanacho’s career as he considers his options ahead of the summer transfer window.
