Nigerian youngster Ezekiel Ruben has shared his inspiring football journey after signing his first professional contract with Serbian Superliga club FK Spartak Subotica. From playing on the dusty pitches of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, to securing a deal abroad, his story is one of determination and perseverance.
This week, the talented Nigerian forward took a major step in his career by signing a four-year contract with FK Spartak Subotica. In an exclusive interview with Kick Off Nigeria, he reflected on his journey, describing the challenges and sacrifices that led him to this milestone.
“Every young footballer in Nigeria dreams of securing a contract with a club abroad,” Ruben admitted. “For many, the biggest challenge is convincing their parents to support their career. But my story was different—my parents, siblings, and everyone around me encouraged me to chase my dream.”
His football journey began at Green House Football Academy in Abuja, one of Nigeria’s well-known academies. He recalled how watching his teammates and friends secure contracts abroad through scouting tournaments kept him motivated. “I never lost hope,” he said. “I knew my time would come.”
That opportunity arrived when he joined D Shack Football Club, where he had his big break. During a scouting match, FK Spartak Subotica’s club director noticed his talent.
“That moment changed everything for me,” Ruben said. “It was the breakthrough I had been waiting for.”
Now, with his first professional contract secured, he knows this is just the beginning.
“I’m living my dream—playing professional football outside Nigeria. But I also understand that the real hard work starts now,” he acknowledged.
Looking ahead, Ruben sees FK Spartak Subotica as a stepping stone to greater opportunities.
“I will give my all to this club and make the most of this chance. Let’s see what the future holds,” he concluded.
