Nigerian forward Obi Jeremiah Chinonso has expressed his joy after making a significant leap from playing in Finland’s third division to signing for Lithuanian top-flight club DFK Dainava.
The relatively unknown Nigerian talent joined the growing list of Nigerian players securing moves during the January transfer window, as he completed his switch to the Lithuanian First League club.
A Dream Move to Lithuanian Top Flight
In an exclusive conversation with Kick Off Nigeria, the promising striker shared his excitement about competing at the highest level and acknowledged the unwavering support of his parents in shaping his football career.
“This happened so quickly. I’m extremely overwhelmed and proud of this great milestone in my career,” Chinonso said. “I started my football journey in Nigeria and signed my first professional contract with Finnish third-tier club Football Club Jazz. My time there was short, as both parties decided not to extend the contract.”
“With my future uncertain, I connected with Fisher Sports Limited, a football agency that brokered my move to DFK Dainava. After weeks of trials, I officially joined the club. Signing for a first-division team in Europe is a huge step for my career, and I feel fulfilled.”
“My parents and siblings have been my biggest motivation. Their unwavering support for my dreams has kept me going, and I can never let them down,” he concluded.
A Key Addition to DFK Dainava
Known for his exceptional ability in dead-ball situations, Chinonso is expected to add quality to the DFK Dainava squad for the upcoming season. He also becomes the second Nigerian player at the Lithuanian club, further strengthening its African presence.
As he embarks on this new challenge, the young Nigerian forward hopes to make a lasting impact and continue his rise in European football.
