After an impressive start to their preseason campaign, German Bundesliga side Hoffenheim face off against FC Homburg, as they continue intensified preparations ahead of the 2025-26 season. Ayomide Oguntimehin provides the detailed preview of the July 23rd clash.
Hoffenheim vs FC Homburg Preview
After a hugely disappointing 2024-25 season, where they narrowly avoided suffering relegation to the German 2nd division after finishing 15th, Hoffenheim began preparations early for the upcoming campaign, having already played three matches in the post season. Die Kraichgauer began preseason action with a 3-2 win over Freiberg on the 12th of July, before recording a dominant 11-0 win over lower-league side Sportfreunde Lauffen. In their last outing, they recorded an impressive 5-2 win over 2nd division side Elversberg, to make it three wins on the bounce as they continue preparations in a bid to improve their performance in the upcoming season.
FC Homburg, on the other hand, finished eighth in the Southwest Regionalliga division in the 2024-25 campaign. They have also enjoyed a very impressive preseason campaign, with four straight wins. They scored 16 goals in that run, and have kept a clean sheet in all four matches. It began with a narrow 1-0 win over F91 Dudelange on the 25th of June before a 6-0 victory over Kottern in their second match. Homburg then recorded 5-0 and 4-0 successes over Victoria Rosport and Jeunesse Esch, in their third and fourth matches respectively, continuing their brilliant form.

The Nigerian international Gift Orban enjoyed has been a key player for Hoffenheim in their preseason campaign as he looks to nail a starting spot in the side ahead of his first full season. The 23-year-old has featured in all three matches, netting three times and his ability to linkup with teammates and create opportunities in tight spaces will be key in unlocking Homburg’s solid defense.
