Super Eagles defender Igoh Ogbu has revealed the reasons behind his decision to reject transfer offers from some of Europe’s top clubs and commit his future to Czech champions Slavia Prague.
In a Footy-Africa exclusive, the 25-year-old centre-back disclosed that Turkish giants Besiktas and Fenerbahce, along with French side Olympique Lyon, had shown serious interest in signing him this summer. However, Ogbu chose to stay in Prague, citing his comfort at the club, his understanding of the system, and the opportunity to play UEFA Champions League football as decisive factors.
“For me, extending my contract is the right choice. I understand the philosophy here, and the chance to play in the Champions League was too important to ignore,” Ogbu told Footy-Africa.
Ogbu, who played a key role in Slavia’s title-winning campaign last season, also opened up about his long-awaited debut for the Nigerian national team at the Unity Cup and his ambitions for the coming season.
“Getting my Super Eagles debut was a dream come true. Now it’s about working harder and gaining more experience,” he added.
With growing interest from abroad and his stock on the rise, Ogbu’s decision to stay shows he’s focused on development over headlines—for now.
