English Championship side Leeds United have opened talks with Portuguese giants FC Porto over the potential signing of Nigerian left-back Zaidu Sanusi ahead of the upcoming transfer window, Africa Foot reports.
Leeds are looking to secure the services of the 27-year-old defender, whose contract with Porto runs until 2026. Sanusi is reportedly seeking a move away from the two-time UEFA Champions League winners in search of more consistent playing time.
With promotion to the Premier League within reach, Leeds are planning to bolster their squad ahead of next season. The club sees Sanusi as a valuable addition thanks to his top-flight experience and versatility. A source at Gestifute, the player’s agency, revealed that Leeds are preparing a €2 million bid for the Nigerian international.
“The contact was initiated last week, with Leeds really serious and keen in their interest for Sanusi. They want to offer €2 million with a four-year contract on the table. The rest now lies with Porto—whether they’re willing to sell him—because the player wants the move. The initial talks were positive, so a move is highly likely,” the source disclosed.
Sanusi joined FC Porto at the beginning of the 2020/21 season and has since made 128 appearances across all competitions, scoring seven goals and providing four assists. He previously played for CD Santa Clara and Mirandela in Portugal.
Currently valued at €3 million by Transfermarkt, Sanusi has earned 22 caps for Nigeria’s senior national team, the Super Eagles, since making his debut in 2022. He has contributed three assists in international play and remains a regular feature in the national setup.
A potential move to Elland Road would offer Sanusi the opportunity to prove himself in one of the most competitive leagues in the world, while providing Leeds with a reliable option on the left side of defense.
