The reigning Italian champions Napoli have set their sights on Bayer 04 Leverkusen’s striking sensation, Victor Okoh Boniface, as a top candidate to fill the potential void left by Victor Osimhen, as per Soccernet.NG.
Osimhen, a key figure for Napoli, has been at the center of transfer rumors linking him to several top European clubs, including Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, and Arsenal, despite having signed a new contract with the Italian side just three months ago.
Boniface, the 23-year-old Nigerian forward, has had a remarkable season with Leverkusen, impressing with ten goals and eight assists in just fifteen starts. His performances have not only earned him the Rookie of the Month award four consecutive times but have also placed him on the radar of major clubs across Europe, including Arsenal.
However, Leverkusen has expressed reluctance to part with the striker, indicating that only a substantial offer in the region of €55 million might prompt discussions for his transfer, when according to Transfermarkt the strikers current value estimates at €40 million.
Despite the buzz surrounding Osimhen’s future, Napoli has been proactive in scouting for replacements, with Boniface emerging as a prime target. Italian transfer expert Niccolò Ceccarini has revealed that Napoli’s list includes other notable strikers such as Jonathan David of Lille and Santiago Gimenez of Feyenoord, among others, indicating the club’s high ambitions in the transfer market.
Nevertheless, the prospect of Boniface’s departure from Leverkusen appears slim. The club has secured a spot in the 2024/2025 UEFA Champions League, and with head coach Xabi Alonso committing to another season, it seems likely that Boniface will remain in Germany to continue his development. This comes at a time when Leverkusen is on the brink of securing their first-ever Bundesliga title, further diminishing the chances of Boniface’s exit.
