Newcastle United is on the verge of signing Chelsea right-winger Noni Madueke, according to sources close to the club, Football Insider reports.
The 22-year-old has reached personal terms with Newcastle, making him the leading candidate among the club’s right-wing targets. This move follows a disappointing 2023-24 season for Newcastle’s wingers, Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy, who combined for only eight goals.
Madueke has become Newcastle’s top choice after Michael Olise’s transfer to Bayern Munich and complications in pursuing Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville. Currently, Madueke is with Chelsea on their pre-season tour in the USA and played in their 2-2 draw against Wrexham on Thursday, July 25.
Newcastle initially expressed interest in Madueke on July 19, seeing him as a significant upgrade for their right-wing position. Madueke joined Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023 for €33.5 million. Since then, he has made 46 appearances and scored nine goals. Despite limited playing time due to the rise of Cole Palmer, Madueke maintained an impressive average of one goal every 281 minutes.
Newcastle is optimistic about finalizing the deal, which would mark a notable enhancement to their attacking options. Chelsea aims to profit from Madueke’s sale, capitalizing on his initial transfer fee from PSV.
