Former Super Eagles winger Emmanuel Amunike has supported his compatriot Victor Osimhen’s decision to remain at Turkish giants Galatasaray during the recently concluded January transfer window, Kick Off Nigeria has exclusively learned.
Several European powerhouses, including Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal, were linked with the Nigerian striker. However, the 26-year-old opted against a mid-season departure, choosing instead to honor his season-long loan contract at Galatasaray from Napoli.
Amunike believes Osimhen made the right decision, as a winter transfer move could have suggested desperation for a new team. He also emphasized the importance of repaying Galatasaray for the loyalty and affection their fans have shown him during his time at the club.
“I think he made the right decision to stay at Galatasaray in the winter transfer window and not rush into any moves, despite multiple interests,” Amunike said in an exclusive interview with Kick Off Nigeria.
“He has been warmly welcomed and appreciated in Turkey, and it’s only right that he repays that with gratitude. He has been able to regain his full potential, thanks to the opportunity given to him after falling out with the people at Napoli,” the 54-year-old added.
The former Sporting CP and Barcelona forward further predicted that Osimhen would receive better offers in the summer transfer window as his value continues to rise.
“He’ll get offers in June, and they’ll be bigger and better for both him and his parent club, Napoli. He’ll leave Galatasaray a satisfied man, and the club and its fans will also have no complaints about him. Overall, it was a well-calculated decision by Osimhen and his camp.”
Osimhen continues to shine at Galatasaray this season, scoring 17 goals and providing five assists in just 22 appearances. He is expected to add to his tally at least until the end of his loan spell in the summer transfer window.
