The Super Eagles ex-star Odemwingie exclusively told Kick Off Nigeria that he is convinced that Osimhen, who is currently on a season-long loan at Turkey’s Galatasaray from Napoli, would be an ideal fit for Ruben Amorim’s system.
Victor Osimhen continues to be linked with top European clubs, including English Premier League sides Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea. All three clubs are reportedly in the market for a proven striker, either in the January or summer transfer window.
Manchester United, in particular, have struggled for goals this season, as neither of their strikers, Joshua Zirkzee nor Rasmus Højlund, has managed to make a significant impact. According to former Super Eagles striker Peter Odemwingie, this gap could easily be filled by the prolific Osimhen.
Odemwingie is convinced that Osimhen, who is currently on a season-long loan at Turkey’s Galatasaray from Napoli, would be an ideal fit for Ruben Amorim’s system. The Nigerian legend highlighted Osimhen’s rare combination of hunger, power, and speed as pivotal qualities that align with Manchester United’s setup at Old Trafford.
“For me, Victor (Osimhen) should join Manchester United because it’s more suited to his profile and ambitions,” Odemwingie said in an exclusive interview with Kick Off Nigeria. “The Manchester United project is raw under Ruben Amorim, and a player like Victor would walk in and make an instant impact. They are desperate for goals, and he’s proven himself wherever he’s played. He’s now excelling in a tricky Turkish league, and he’s already done it in Italy and France.
“Most importantly, with his power, pace, and desire, he fits the type of player Ruben Amorim would use. I think he would form a formidable partnership with Amad Diallo and Bruno Fernandes. Manchester United should go all in for him during this window,” the 43-year-old added.
This season, Manchester United’s top scorer is Amad Diallo, with nine goals across all competitions. However, Diallo primarily plays as a winger and occasionally as a right wingback. Højlund and Zirkzee have scored just seven and four goals, respectively.
“These numbers are nowhere near good enough by any standard,” Odemwingie continued. “The team needs more goals and a player who can be a constant threat to opposition defenses—and that’s exactly the mould of Osimhen.”
In contrast to Manchester United’s forwards, Osimhen has scored 13 goals and provided five assists in just 17 appearances for Galatasaray this season. Over the past three seasons, the Nigerian striker has an impressive record of 71 goals and 14 assists in 120 games.
