Promising Nigerian winger Samuel Akere has completed his medicals ahead of a permanent transfer to Polish Ekstraklasa side Widzew Lodz from Bulgarian club Botev Plovdiv, Kick Off Nigeria reports.
The 21-year-old’s move is now at an advanced stage, with final paperwork and official unveiling expected in the coming days following a successful medical examination with the Polish top-flight club.
Akere was previously close to joining Belgian giants Anderlecht during the winter transfer window, but the deal fell through due to the club’s inability to meet Botev Plovdiv’s valuation.
The left-footed attacker began his career at G12 Football Academy in Nigeria before moving to Russian club FDC Vista to further his development. He signed his first professional contract with Botev Plovdiv in 2022.
Akere initially played for Botev’s B team, but his strong performances quickly earned him a place in the senior squad. He played a key role in the club’s domestic success, helping them win the Bulgarian league title in 2023.
He also impressed in continental action, scoring one goal in two appearances during the UEFA Europa League qualifiers—attracting attention from clubs across Europe.
Now poised to join Widzew Lodz, Akere is set for a fresh chapter in his promising career, as he continues to rise among Nigeria’s exciting young football exports.
