Despite being at FC Porto for less than a season, youngster Samu Omorodion Aghehowa has already attracted interest from several high-profile clubs across major European leagues, including England, Spain, Germany, and Italy.
Omorodion has been linked with Manchester United, Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Arsenal in the Premier League. He has also been rumored to be a potential long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski at Barcelona.
However, former Nigerian star Danny Shittu, who spent his club career in England, has advised the 20-year-old to stay at Porto for at least another season to further his development before making a high-pressure move.
“First, I think Samu is extremely talented, with huge potential to reach great heights in a few years. He’s powerful, fast, and a fine finisher,” Shittu said in an exclusive interview with Kick Off Nigeria. “But I think he shouldn’t rush into a high-stakes move, as there’s still a lot he can learn. FC Porto provides him with the right platform—he’s in good hands. He should give himself a season or two in Portugal to continue developing before moving on,”
“If he continues on this trajectory, with the right development and attitude, then in a season or two, top clubs will be scrambling for his signature. He’ll have stronger bargaining power, and Porto will earn more if they decide to sell,” Shittu remarked.
It should be noted that Omorodion signed a five-year contract with Porto last summer after joining from Atlético Madrid, a deal that runs until 2029. The Portuguese club reportedly paid around €15 million to secure his transfer.
Omorodion was on the scoresheet on Saturday as Porto defeated Arouca 2-0 in the Primeira Liga. Overall, in his debut season so far, the forward has scored 20 goals and provided three assists in 32 appearances.
