In a move signaling a significant shift in his career trajectory, former Birmingham City academy standout, Viv Solomon-Otabor, has made headlines by joining the ranks of the Chinese Super League club Cangzhou Mighty Lions F.C, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Breaking the news via their official website, Ukrainian club Rukh Lviv announced the departure of the 2019 Super Eagles invitee, following a mutual termination of his contract, four months ahead of schedule. Solomon-Otabor’s early exit from Rukh Lviv paved the way for his free-agent move to Cangzhou Mighty Lions F.C. in the Chinese Super League.
The winger, who initially transferred to Rukh Lviv in January 2022, leaves behind a legacy of 42 league appearances, during which he found the net three times and contributed with two assists.
Although the specifics of Solomon-Otabor’s contract with Cangzhou Mighty Lions F.C. have not been officially disclosed by Rukh Lviv, credible sources have confirmed to allnigeriasoccer.com that the player has inked a one-year deal with his new Chinese club. According to Transfermarkt the player’s current market value estimates at €500,000.
Solomon-Otabor’s journey to the Chinese Super League comes after experiencing interest from Cypriot club Apollon Limassol in recent transfer windows, although no deal materialized. The 28-year-old’s career boasts a diverse portfolio, with stints at various clubs including Blackpool, Wigan Athletic, Portsmouth, CSKA Sofia, St. Johnstone FC, and Bolton Wanderers.
Despite being called up for a prestigious friendly encounter between Nigeria and Brazil in October 2019, Solomon-Otabor’s playing time remained limited, with the winger left unused on the substitutes’ bench.
Solomon-Otabor’s leap into Chinese football marks a new chapter in his career, as he aims to make an impact in one of Asia’s most burgeoning football leagues.
