The Turkish club’s president Ertuğrul Doğan has voiced his frustration over prolonged negotiations with Southampton for the transfer of Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu, Sport Witness reports.
The former Turkish champions, which had the player on loan last season, are eager to secure his return but has encountered difficulties in finalizing a deal with the English side.
Doğan revealed that while Trabzonspor has already reached an agreement with Onuachu, discussions with Southampton remain a stumbling block. He emphasized the club’s determination to bring back the forward but acknowledged the challenges in meeting Southampton’s demands.
“We had agreed with Onuachu. We’re still seeing each other. Southampton asked for 7, we gave them that, they asked for 10, we went up to 8-9 with bonuses, then they increased it to 15. So, they weren’t going to give him to us. Therefore, we had to not offend our club somewhere. If it is not on our terms, we will not be able to make this transfer,” said the Trabzonspor number one person.
During his loan spell in Turkey, Onuachu delivered an impressive performance, making him a key target for Trabzonspor. However, the situation remains complicated, with rival Turkish club Beşiktaş also showing interest in the 29-year-old striker.
