Spartak Moscow’s Nigerian midfielder Victor Moses, is poised to bid farewell to the red-and-white squad next summer. The revelation comes following reports from Sport-Express, indicating that the club has no intentions of extending Moses’ contract, set to expire in June of next year.
The Nigerian international, who made a notable transition to Spartak Moscow from Chelsea in October 2020 for a transfer fee of €6.5 million after a year-long loan, has become a prominent figure in the team’s lineup. With 78 appearances under his belt, Moses has notched 10 goals and provided 10 assists during his spell in the Russian capital.
However, the current season has seen a shift in Moses’ on-field contributions. In 13 appearances, the 33-year-old midfielder has managed just one goal and one assist, raising questions about his future with the club.
Since joining Spartak Moscow in 2021, Moses has been an integral part of one of Russia’s most popular football clubs. The move became permanent after a year-long loan, with a noteworthy €6.5 million spent on securing his services. Moses currently commands a salary close to two million euros per year, exclusive of bonuses and taxes.
The decline in Moses’ playing time, partly attributed to a string of injuries, adds uncertainty to his future with the team. The hefty two-million-euro salary, coupled with Spartak Moscow’s absence from European competitions, raises questions about the financial feasibility of retaining the Nigerian midfielder.
Spartak Moscow now is ready to face a crucial decision regarding the future of the seasoned midfielder.
