Nigerian youngster Victor Udoh has arrived in England for medical tests ahead of a potential move from Belgian side Royal Antwerp to English Premier League strugglers Southampton FC, Kick Off Nigeria has exclusively learned.
The Saints reached an agreement yesterday with the five-time Belgian Pro League champions Antwerp over Udoh’s transfer, with plans to integrate him into the reserves before a potential promotion to the senior team.
According to a source close to his representing agency, Elite Project Group Limited, the 20-year-old has flown to England to undergo medical tests and is expected to sign a long-term contract before the transfer deadline.
“He (Udoh) arrived in England a few hours ago for his medical tests. We expect him to sign a four-year contract, but he’ll surely be a Southampton player before the deadline unless something drastic changes. We hope he’ll continue his development there, as Southampton has a proven track record of nurturing young talent,” the source exclusively told Kick Off Nigeria.
If Udoh signs, he could represent either the club’s Under-21s in Premier League 2 or compete for a place in the senior team, with opportunities available in both competitions.
Udoh scored 12 goals in 21 matches for Antwerp’s junior team in Belgium’s third tier during the 2023/24 season, earning a promotion to the first team this campaign, where he has made 14 appearances so far.
The promising forward moved to Belgium from Nigeria at the age of 18, having played for Hypebuzz Academy Abuja. At Southampton, he is expected to continue his development and refine his skills further.
