Former Nigerian international Joseph Yobo has urged his compatriot, Victor Osimhen, to consider joining English Premier League giants Manchester United. The Super Eagles striker has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, with reports suggesting that the Red Devils have submitted a formal offer.
Osimhen is currently on a season-long loan at Galatasaray from reigning Serie A champions Napoli, but his next move has become the talk of the transfer market.
Yobo, a former Everton defender, believes Manchester United would be the perfect destination for Osimhen and could offer a transformative opportunity for both the player and the club, who have struggled in front of goal this season.
“For me, it’s a no-brainer. Victor and Manchester United are a perfect fit, and there’s no doubt he’d thrive there if they signed him,” Yobo said in an exclusive interview with Kick Off Nigeria.
“Even though they are struggling during this transition, Manchester United remains one of the top three biggest clubs in the world, and that won’t change anytime soon. So, if you ask me, I’ll be honest with you: Victor should take on the offer if it’s presented.”
Why Manchester United Needs Osimhen
Manchester United’s attacking woes have been evident this season, with just 23 goals scored in 23 Premier League matches—a glaring deficiency for a club of their stature. Yobo emphasized that Osimhen could be the key to solving this problem.
“If he walks into that team, everything changes, especially with how they score goals,” Yobo stated. “He is gifted with pace and power, but also with finishing. He’s one of the best finishers in Europe, and he has proven that over successive seasons.”
Osimhen has delivered stellar performances this season, tallying 13 goals and four assists in 16 appearances for Galatasaray across the Turkish League and the UEFA Europa League.
An Exciting New Project Under Ruben Amorim
Yobo also praised Manchester United’s decision to bring in Ruben Amorim as their head coach, describing him as “one of the best of his generation.”
“Their project is exciting with a new coach in Amorim,” Yobo said. “If Amorim trusts Victor to be one of the leaders of this project, which is still under transition, then yes, I think he shouldn’t think twice—he should take it up.”
Rival Interest for Osimhen
The 26-year-old striker has also attracted interest from Premier League rivals Liverpool and Chelsea, both of whom are actively seeking a reliable forward in the January transfer window.
With his pace, power, and clinical finishing ability, Osimhen has established himself as one of Europe’s top strikers, making him a hot commodity in the transfer market.
