Nigeria defender Abdullahi Bewene says he is delighted to return to the Super Eagles squad for their friendly against Russia.
The 21-year-old Banik Ostrava centre-back impressed on his previous international appearances against Poland and Portugal ahead of the last World Cup and is eager to build on those performances.
Although Bewene has not been selected for Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau, he has been included for the Russia friendly.
“I am glad to be back in the national setup again, and I am ready to represent my nation, even though it’s a friendly game,” Bewene told Footy-Africa.
The defender said the positive reaction to his previous appearances has given him extra motivation to continue developing and contribute to Nigeria’s future success.
“I enjoyed the experience I had last time, and it feels nice that Nigerians now know me and appreciate my game,” he added.
Bewene said he would have liked to feature in the AFCON qualifiers but backed the Super Eagles squad to get positive results against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.
The Banik Ostrava defender has made nine appearances for his club so far this season and will hope to add another international appearance against Russia.
