Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong has shed light on the growing interest in Ademola Lookman from top European clubs, following the forward’s exceptional performances for Atalanta, as per Talk Sport.
Lookman has emerged as a key figure in Serie A, turning his career around after challenging spells in the Premier League and Bundesliga. Since joining Atalanta in 2022, the 27-year-old has been in dazzling form, scoring 43 goals and providing 23 assists in 96 appearances. His standout moment came in the Europa League final last season, where his stunning hattrick ended Bayer Leverkusen’s remarkable unbeaten streak.

“He’s in incredible form,” Troost-Ekong said in an interview with talkSPORT. “This season, he’s taken things to another level. He’s probably the best player in our squad and arguably the best in Africa right now. After that Europa League final performance, it’s no surprise that big clubs are keen on him.”
The Nigeria captain also praised Lookman’s professionalism and versatility, suggesting he would be a valuable asset to any top side. He noted that Atalanta has so far resisted letting their star player leave, but the interest in Lookman remains strong.
Lookman’s outstanding year has also earned him a nomination for the African Player of the Year award, with the winner set to be revealed on December 16.
