Victor Osimhen’s future continues to dominate headlines as the Nigerian forward remains on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli. Despite intense speculation during the recent transfer window, Osimhen stayed put in Turkey, where he has been instrumental for the Super Lig giants.
During the summer transfer window, interest in Osimhen is expected to reignite, with Premier League clubs reportedly leading the race for his signature. Kick Off Nigeria exclusively spoke to the former Nigerian international Brian Idowu, who has added his voice to the conversation, suggesting that Chelsea could be the ideal destination for the Napoli striker, whose market value is currently estimated at €120 million, according to Transfermarkt.
“Chelsea’s Young Core Offers Osimhen a Platform to Shine”
Idowu believes Chelsea’s ongoing rebuilding process under new ownership could provide Osimhen with the perfect environment to excel.
“Chelsea is a young and promising team,” Idowu stated. “With players like Cole Palmer, they have the ability to create plenty of opportunities for Osimhen to score goals. If we’re talking about the Premier League, Chelsea stands out as the best option for him.”
He further noted Osimhen’s admiration for Didier Drogba, a club legend and one of Africa’s greatest players, as a motivating factor. “Taking a similar path as Drogba would be logical. They share similar qualities, and it would be a natural progression for Osimhen to follow in Drogba’s footsteps at Stamford Bridge.”
“The Premier League Suits Osimhen Perfectly”
When asked about whether the Premier League is the right fit for Osimhen, Idowu was confident in the striker’s ability to adapt.
“Judging by his physical stats, he’s strong, fast, and tall. The Premier League suits him perfectly,” he said. “In Italy, he’s already proven himself as a top player, and he could do the same in England. Plus, if playing in the Premier League is something he really wants, that’s already a big motivation.”
“Nigerian Players Have Shown the Way”
Ex-Nigerian international who represented Super Eagles at the World Cup 2018 also touched on Osimhen’s inspiration from Nigerian players who have thrived in the Premier League.
“I think he’s watched players like Nwankwo Kanu and Drogba, who succeeded in England. He wants to follow in their footsteps to some extent. Playing in one of the best leagues in the world and succeeding there is a goal for him.”
Manchester United and Arsenal Still in the Mix
While Idowu clearly favours Chelsea, he acknowledged the interest from other Premier League clubs, particularly Manchester United and Arsenal. However, he suggested Chelsea’s rebuilding project and their need for a proven goal-scorer give them the edge.
