Coventry City have completed the permanent signing of Nigerian midfielder Frank Onyeka from Brentford following a successful loan spell that ended with the Sky Blues securing promotion to the Premier League.
The 28-year-old initially joined Coventry on loan in January and quickly became an important part of Frank Lampard’s side, helping the club win the Championship title. His move has now been made permanent after the opening of the summer transfer window, with the transfer fee undisclosed.
Onyeka made 14 league appearances during the second half of the campaign and scored a crucial goal against Derby County in April as Coventry sealed promotion back to the top flight.
Speaking after completing the transfer, Onyeka said he was delighted to continue his journey with the club.
“I’m really excited for the new season with Coventry,” he said. “When I arrived, my aim was to help the team win the Championship and earn promotion. Now I’m looking forward to helping the club compete in the Premier League.”
The Nigeria international also pledged to bring his experience and determination to the squad, adding that his focus is on helping Coventry establish themselves back among England’s elite.

Onyeka arrives with significant top-flight pedigree after making 75 Premier League appearances for Brentford following his move from Danish side FC Midtjylland in 2021. During his time in Denmark, he won multiple league titles and developed into one of the country’s standout midfielders before earning his move to England.
Known for his energy, ball-winning ability and tactical discipline, Onyeka has also been a regular for the Nigeria national football team, representing the Super Eagles at major international tournaments.
His permanent arrival provides Coventry with proven Premier League experience as Lampard’s side prepare for life back in the top flight, with the midfielder expected to remain a key figure in the club’s plans for the 2026-27 season.
