Following a successful 2022/2023 season that saw Brentford F.C. secure a commendable ninth place in the Premier League, the current season has presented challenges for the team as they linger just three points above the relegation zone. Nonetheless, it’s been a more auspicious start for Nigerian midfielder Frank Onyeka. Having re-signed his contract and finally recovered from injuries, Onyeka is gradually striving to reclaim his pivotal role in the team’s midfield, reminiscent of his time in Denmark.
Frank Onyeka’s Salary at Brentford F.C.
The Nigerian midfielder joined the English club in the summer of 2021, playing a crucial role in the team’s midfield during their historic early seasons in the Premier League. For the 2023/2024 season, Onyeka is set to earn €2,411,464, equivalent to €46,374 per week.

Career Salary Comparison
Onyeka’s significant salary increase occurred after two seasons with the main squad of FC Midtjylland in Denmark. Becoming a key player for the Danish club and winning two trophies, Onyeka secured a new agreement that quadrupled his earnings. However, the most substantial growth happened with his move to England, where his salary increased by over 7.5 times, making him the highest-earning African player in the team for the 2021/2022 season.
Despite a few serious injuries and less-than-stellar initial seasons at Brentford F.C., Frank Onyeka re-signed with the team under more favorable conditions. Thanks to the new agreement, the Nigerian midfielder started earning over 1.5 times more, currently marking the highest point in his career.

Market Value: Another Increase After a Series of Injuries
Throughout his career in Denmark, Onyeka’s transfer value consistently rose. In his first season at the adult level, he made a significant contribution to FC Midtjylland’s championship, leading to a 12-fold increase in his transfer value. Over the next three seasons in Denmark, Onyeka added another league title and a domestic cup to his achievements, debuted in the Champions League, and became one of the best players not only on the team but in the entire league. During this period, his market value increased tenfold.
A successful first half of his debut season at Brentford F.C. led to a more than 1.5-fold increase in Onyeka’s transfer value, reaching its peak. However, after the African Cup of Nations, the midfielder lost his place in the lineup, played only three incomplete matches, and suffered an injury in March, missing the remainder of the season. This affected his transfer value, decreasing by one million euros. In the 2022/2023 season, Onyeka often came off the bench and suffered another injury mid-season, returning to the field only at the end of April. Loss of a starting position and constant injuries led to another one-million-euro decrease in the player’s value.
However, in the current season, Frank Onyeka has been getting more playing time, and his transfer value has once again increased. Currently, Transfermarkt estimates the Nigerian midfielder at €9 million.

National Team Achievements
Frank Onyeka made his debut for the Nigerian national team in 2020. He earned a spot in the squad for a major tournament two years later. However, during the rescheduled African Cup of Nations in Cameroon, Onyeka was not a regular starter, coming off the bench only in one group stage match against Guinea-Bissau. Nigeria progressed to the playoffs but was eliminated in the first round by Tunisia with a minimal score.
Nevertheless, Onyeka was included in the squad for the 2023 African Cup of Nations as a key player. In the opening match against Equatorial Guinea, the midfielder played the full 90 minutes. In total, he has made 18 appearances for the national team and scored one goal in a friendly against Mozambique.
Football and Salary Prospects
Starting the 2023/2024 season on the bench due to injury, Frank Onyeka returned in the third round and has since missed only one match due to accumulated yellow cards. In 16 games, the midfielder managed to provide an assist against West Ham United F.C. Despite predominantly coming off the bench, Onyeka has played the full 90 minutes in four matches this season. In comparison, in the 2022/2023 season, he never played the full 90 minutes on the field. A strong performance in the African Cup of Nations could help the Nigerian secure a permanent place in the starting lineup and become a key player for Brentford F.C.
