Nigeria new boy Isaac James says playing at the Africa Cup of Nations is one of his biggest ambitions after receiving his first Super Eagles call-up.
The 22-year-old Alverca defender was selected by Eric Chelle for the current international window after making seven appearances and providing two assists for the Portuguese club this season.
James admitted he was surprised by the invitation and hopes to make his Nigeria debut.
“I was surprised and happy when I got the call-up for Nigeria, as it has always been my dream to play for the Super Eagles,” he told Footy-Africa.
The defender has also stressed that he will put the team’s interests first, regardless of whether he starts or remains on the bench.
“We are a team. It does not matter who starts because we all have one thing in common, and that is to do well for Nigeria,” James said.
Nigeria face Guinea-Bissau in their next 2027 AFCON qualifier, with James expecting a difficult test and urging the Super Eagles to fight for maximum points.
“One of my dreams is to play at the FIFA World Cup, the Africa Cup of Nations and in the Champions League,” he added. “This game against Guinea-Bissau is another opportunity to take a step towards achieving those dreams.”
