Nigeria defender Tyronne Ebuehi has returned to former club FC Twente as he continues his recovery from a serious knee injury, according to Twente Insite.
The 30-year-old, who is currently a free agent after leaving Empoli, trained with the FC Twente/Heracles Under-21 side in Enschede on Friday.
Ebuehi is using the familiar surroundings to rebuild his fitness after suffering a cruciate ligament injury towards the end of his spell in Italy. There is no indication that FC Twente are considering signing the Nigeria international.
The right-back previously played for Twente during the 2020-21 season on loan from Benfica, making 34 appearances and contributing one goal and one assist.
He subsequently joined Venezia on loan before moving permanently to Empoli in 2022. Ebuehi made his Serie A debut with the club and remained there until his contract expired this summer.
The defender has won 12 caps for Nigeria and was part of the Super Eagles squad at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. His most recent international appearance came in October 2023, when Nigeria drew 2-2 with Saudi Arabia.
Ebuehi will now focus on completing his recovery and securing a new club ahead of the next stage of his career.
