Belgian giants RSC Anderlecht are set to increase their offer for highly rated Nigerian midfielder Anthony Dennis after their initial bid was turned down by Turkish club Goztepe FC, according to Footy-Africa.
The 34-time Belgian champions had submitted an opening bid of 3.25 million euros, but Goztepe rejected it. Anderlecht are now ready to return with an improved proposal worth 4.5 million euros, including performance-related add-ons, in a fresh push to sign the 21-year-old talent.
Goztepe Holding Out for 5 Million Euros Plus Sell-On Clause
Dennis is under contract with Goztepe until 2027, having joined the club from HB Abuja in July 2023 and extended his deal in May 2024. Goztepe reportedly value the midfielder at 5 million euros and are also demanding a percentage of any future resale.
A representative from Elite Project Group, the agency managing Dennis, spoke to Footy-Africa about the ongoing talks.
“It is understandable that Goztepe rejected the 3.25 million euro offer given the potential he has and the season he just had. But Anderlecht are not backing down. They have informed us they are ready to increase their bid to 4.5 million euros with performance-related bonuses. Goztepe are still insisting on 5 million euros and a future resale clause,” the source said.
Breakout Season and Super Eagles Recognition
Dennis had a strong season, making 37 appearances and providing two assists. In the 2023-24 campaign, he featured 15 times and scored once. Known for his composure and defensive intelligence, Dennis has quickly developed into one of Goztepe’s key players.
His performances also earned him a first senior call-up to the Nigerian national team earlier this year, though he is yet to make his debut. His current market value is estimated at 4 million euros, according to Transfermarkt.
With Anderlecht pushing to wrap up the deal before other clubs join the race, all eyes will be on how Goztepe respond to the new offer in the coming days.
